Mission
  The mission of the Lala Lajpatrai college library is to provide college students with the information they need to achieve their highest academic potential and help them acquire research skills necessary for lifelong learning. To support teaching faculty & administrative staff and to participate in cooperative information exchange within the wider library / educational community.
   
Resources
  The Lala Lajpatrai College established in 1972, this library is one of the oldest libraries among the commerce colleges in Mumbai. The college conducts various courses to cater the needs of the society.

Library resources include a growing collection of 35000 books; current subscriptions to 70+ periodicals and most leading newspapers and audio-visual resources to support every course offered by the college. The library's collection is growing in all the subjects every year. There is back volume section for research oriented study. The Lala Lajpatrai Memorial Lecture Series are available in hard copies as well as in digital (.PDF) form.

   
Automation & Services
  The library is automated with SOUL library integrated software developed by INFLIBNET (UGC). Library has six terminals with OPAC facilities for searching and locating books and journals meant for students' & faculty. These PCs can be used by students for their Project work, Dissertation etc. Students and Faculty can search the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) and access library services via the computer network in College Campus. Since 1984 the retrospective conversion of the library catalogue has been done. Bar-coding of documents is also done. Library has started automated circulation service in January 2007.

Special Support for Students & Staff
  The library provides instruction in library use through freshman orientation and printed materials. It provides students and staff with free internet facility and free interlibrary loan service. The college is linked with Libraries of University of Mumbai, TATA Institute of Social Sciences, IGIDR and The British Council Library Mumbai. The library service is monitored by the Library Advisory Committee. The book bank facility is available for students who belong to under-privileged sections of the society.
   
Technology in Library
 

Internet Access in the Library



The Library PCs are connected with Internet. Everyone in the college is free to access.
 
Photocopying / Scanning / Printing


The Library has MODI photocopier, HP Scanjet 3670 Scanner, HP LaserJet 1010 Printer and EPSON 2175 Printer. Make photocopies, scan, print materials to word, PDF and TIFF etc. for OCR conversion or take Printouts in hard copies.


Fax


Digital Faxing facility is available in Library.
   
Innovative Initiatives
  Library has started digital information service through GSDL (GreenStone Digital Library) open source software. Course Syllabus, Question Papers, Journal Articles etc. can be accessed through GSDL strictly for educational purpose only. The library has students database which includes address, telephone numbers or cell numbers, e-mail and fax numbers. The new arrival list, subject gateways list, new URLs in their field of study is delivered in e-form through e-mail. Recently library has started a 'Web Resource Centre', where one can get new URLs, subject gateways and other free web resources for teaching and learning. Anyone can also suggest the academic URLs, subject gateways, portals etc. to improve the library services.

Library Catalogue
  Library has more than 35000 books and 70+ periodicals in its rich collection. You can access online catalogue for only the books procured since 1984. The retrospective conversion for early years is in progress. The CDs, VCDs, DVDs also available in its collection. You can browse the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) i.e. BOOK SEARCH (Only on College Intranet)

College library is lnter-linked with the Lala Lajpatrai Institute of Management (LLIM) library and Lala Lajpatrai college students can get LLIM library resources on Inter Library Loan. One can browse catalogue of LLIM library books (Only on College Intranet).
   
Lala Lajpatrai Memorial Lectures
  Since 1972 College is being conducting Lala Lajpatrai Memorial Lectures to commemorate Lala Lajpatrai on his Birth Day i.e. 28th January of every year. You can browse respective year lecture series in pdf form on college intranet. The digitized Memorial Lectures brought out on CD and released on Lala Lajpatrai Memorial Lecture - 2007.
   
Library Staff
 
The library services are always depending on the staff working in the library. The services are always appreciated only with good quality assistance and with innovative approach behind it.

The library staff, led by Mr. Jayadev H Kadli, is working behind the screen to meet front desk operations and any one can approach them in working hours of the library for library resources and services.

  Students Who Have Won 'Best Library User Award'
  The Best Library User Award is given on the basis of the library resources used by a student and innovative ideas brought to develop the library services. His or her behaviour in the college and the marks secured in previous year annual exam is taken in to account.
